Duration
Your Commercial Pilots Licence Course can be 32-36 weeks Full Time or, alternatively, can be done over a longer period on a part time basis. Mainland Aviation College's course is the full 200 hour CAA course.
Prerequisites
You need to:
- a New Zealand PPL or NZ CAA validated equivalent
- a Class 1 Medical Certificate
- to be at least 18 years of age for issue of your licence
- no educational prerequisites
Course Description - Theory
The theory course covers the 6 subjects set out in the NZ CAA syllabus:
- Navigation
- Principles of Flight
- Aircraft Technical Knowledge
- Meteorology
- Human Factors
- Aviation Law
Course Description - Flight Training
This covers the NZ CAA syllabus for CPL. The 200 hour requirement prior to flight test includes the students PPL hours. The training requires that you have completed formal training including Cross Country hours and associated flight test (conducted internally) and instrument flight time requirements.
An independent Flight Examiner will conduct your CPL Flight Test.
Assessment
During the theory course, progress towards the required standard will be monitored by progress tests, with final revision assessments prior to sitting the ASL examinations. As part of the flight training syllabus, your progress is monitored by a debriefing session with your instructor following each training flight, plus final check flights with a senior instructor and/or the Chief Flying Instructor.
Course Cost
The cost is based on 50 hours dual instruction in a Cessna 152 and 100 hours solo in a Cessna 152. The cost includes all theory study material, Flight Test fee, Licence Issue, Exam fees, Airways and Landing fees, and CAA Planning Manual and updates.
