Mainland Air Flight Training

Mainland Aviation College

Mainland Aviation College offers a full range of courses and is registered as a Private Training Establishment by the New Zealand Qualifications Authority under the provisions of the Education Act 1989 and its subsequent amendments.

Mainland Aviation College, in association with Nelson Marlborough Institute of Technology, offers three Diploma courses in Aviation Science. The Diploma's are designed to give the graduate all the necessary licences for employment in the aviation industry as a pilot plus tertiary qualifications to add extra value to those licences.

To become a qualified pilot with the aim of recreational flying, you need to obtain a Private Pilots Licence (PPL). This allows you to fly friends and family to any destination in the country on fair weather days under Visual Flight Rules (VFR).

The PPL is also the first step to becoming a Professional Pilot, however before you can work as a professional pilot, you require a Commercial Pilots Licence (CPL). Once you have achieved this, you can work for hire or reward in Visual Meteorological conditions.

To increase your employment opportunities there are a number of options a pilot can pursue. Being an instructor allows you to train students while gaining valuable experience and flying hours, and is often the first step to a career in the aviation industry.

Another option at this time is to gain an instrument rating, This allows you to fly on poor weather days, in cloud, under Instrument Flight Rules (IFR); this is an essential step in pursuing a career in the airline industry.

Training in our integrated course qualifies our students for a Commercial Pilots Licence and an Instrument Rating with a conversion to a twin-engine aircraft in approximately 240 flight hours.

All individual courses, licenses and ratings are available Full Time or Part Time as individual courses.
