This is your opportunity to soar like a bird in one of the most pristine gliding environmentsabove the planet, scene of World Gliding Championships and many gliding world records. Depart Dunedin International Airport and fly due north over the Maniototo Plain, famous for its dramatic light and cloud formations. Arriving at the Waitaki River, we take in the huge earth and concrete Benmore Dam before landing at Omarama, 'place of moonlight'. The glider flight is optional but who could resist? Enjoy the serene pleasure of gliding with unlimited views of Aoraki Mount Cook, Southern Alps, teal-blue glacial lakes and the Mackenzie Country made famous by sheep-rustler James Mackenzie and his dog 'Friday'. However, if you must stay on the ground you can simply relax in this quiet high country village. Lunch at Omarama Hotel before returning to Dunedin via either Central Otago or the giant Macraes Gold Mine in East Otago, depending on the conditions.
