Duration
Your Private Pilots Licence Course can be either 12 weeks (minimum) full time or taken on a part time basis.
Prerequisites
You need to:
- a Class 2 Medical Certificate
- to be proficient in the English language
- to be at least 16 years of age before going solo
- to be at least 17 years of age for issue of your licence
- no educational prerequisites
Course Description
The syllabus as laid down by the NZ CAA requires a minimum of 50 hours flight time for an unrestricted PPL. This is compiled of approximately 30 hours dual instruction and 20 hours solo. On average, students will achieve their first solo after 10 to 15 hours of dual instruction. The 50 hours includes a minimum of 10 hours cross country (5 Dual and 5 Solo) and 5 hours instrument flying plus passes in all 6 theory examination which are integrated in to the course.

- Human Factors
- Navigation
- Meteorology
- Aircraft Technical Knowledge
- Aviation Law, and
- Radio Telephony
Assessment
Assessment for the NZ CAA theory examinations is ongoing in class prior to you sitting the ASL administered external exams.
An independent Flight Examiner will conduct your PPL flight test.
Course Cost
The total cost is based on 35 hours dual instruction and 15 hours solo. The cost includes all theory study material, Flight Test fee, Licence Issue, Exam fees, Airways and Landing fees, Navigation equipment and charts, pilots Logbook, headset and bag.
